French White Flower Jug
French White Flower Jug with Blue inky pattern

This French White Flower Jug is made of emaille [enamel] and is sourced from France. This is an unusual find, what at first appears to be a water jug, with measurements written on the inside was actually used for an entirely different purpose! A small rubber hose would be attached to the spout at the bottom of the vessel and would facilitate the sanitary requirements of the owner. In other words, a hand-held bidet, or an Embouti Aseptique as it was called at the time.

This jug is vintage and dates from circa 1950s.  The enamel is in very good condition for it’s age with a few chips around the base and top edge. This type of drip glaze / inky pattern effect was featured in the May 2017 edition of Good Homes magazine.

This could be hung on the wall to display potted plants or flowers or I have one in my workroom storing scissors and rules.
